Service Mindedness: Eleanor Roosevelt
Eleanor Roosevelt exhibited Service Mindedness in both her personal and public life. As First Lady in the 1930s, she understood social conditions better than any of her predecessors and used that awareness to become a strong advocate for the rights and needs of the poor, minorities, and disadvantaged. Roosevelt continued her efforts long after her husband FDR passed away, later serving as the first chairperson of the U.N. Human Rights Commission.
